Montecucco: the soul
of Sangiovese
Montecucco is a strongly identity-driven denomination in which Sangiovese represents the flagship grape variety and the main interpreter of the territory.
Here, Sangiovese expresses a distinctive profile: elegant and structured, combining freshness, energy and depth, and reflecting both the unique pedoclimatic conditions of the area and the expertise of its producers.
Alongside Sangiovese, other varieties are also gaining importance, particularly Vermentino, which is increasingly appreciated for its character, minerality and contemporary style.

The denomination
The denomination includes Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG, Montecucco Rosso DOC, Montecucco Bianco DOC, Montecucco Vermentino DOC, Montecucco Rosato DOC, Montecucco Vin Santo DOC and Montecucco Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice DOC.
All wines share a strong territorial identity and a clear vocation for elegance, drinkability and aging potential.
From an ampelographic perspective, Sangiovese accounts for approximately 61% of the vineyard area, confirming its role as the dominant variety. Vermentino represents around 11%, while smaller percentages are made up of international varieties, particularly Merlot, and native grapes such as Ciliegiolo, which is experiencing renewed interest.
From a stylistic point of view, in the past years, there is a growing focus on more accessible and contemporary wines that combine quality, freshness and drinkability. In this context, Montecucco Rosso DOC stands out as a particularly appreciated style thanks to its youthful, balanced and versatile profile, in line with evolving consumer preferences.
