Sustainability and Biodistrict
Sustainability is one of the founding pillars of Montecucco, not as a recent trend but as a structural and identity-defining approach.
Thanks to particularly favorable natural conditions such as constant ventilation, dry summers, strong biodiversity and a well-preserved environmental balance, sustainable viticulture has developed naturally and extensively across the territory.
The most recent data confirms this vocation: the share of certified organic production is over 90% for both the DOC and the DOCG wines, among the highest percentages in the Italian and European wine landscape.
This is a highly significant result, reflecting not only an ethical choice but also a long-standing and shared vision. Many wineries were established directly under organic principles, without a conversion phase, contributing to a coherent and advanced production model.
In Montecucco, sustainability goes beyond agricultural practices and extends to a broader vision that includes biodiversity protection, landscape conservation, responsible use of natural resources, and ongoing agronomic research and innovation.

Within this context, also the Biodistretto del Montecucco (Montecucco Organic District) was established to strengthen and coordinate sustainable practices at a territorial level. It represents a virtuous model of integrated development involving agricultural businesses, institutions and local communities, with the aim of promoting organic farming, enhancing local production, preserving landscape identity and supporting a circular, territory-based economy.
Montecucco stands as one of the most advanced wine territories in Italy in terms of sustainability, where environment, production and community coexist in balance.
